Music Festivals

With a packed programme of happenings all over the Highlands, you can certainly make your time here eventful. Variety is the key and many of the events take a musical theme. These range from live traditional music performances in pubs and hotels to massed displays of bagpipes, drums and Highland dancing.

There are many festivals within the area including the Blas Festival – traditional music & song, while Highland Archaeology Week in October has many events throughout the Highlands including walks, talks, children’s activities, concerts and exhibitions.

Highland Games

Highland Games truly belong in this area as well and you will find a wide-ranging programme of such gatherings right through the summer. Even better, you can find them in beautiful settings and in quite small communities. These truly Highland events uniquely combine traditional sports, such as the heavy events and caber tossing, with musical competitions for piping or dancing.

Other events with a community theme include a variety of local galas – great get-togethers to which you are warmly invited, the ever-popular agricultural shows and of course shinty matches – our very own sport. Check out the historical re-enactments at Fort George, comedy touring groups in local village halls, enjoy gourmet treats at the food and drink festivals in the Inverness and Skye areas or pick up some local produce at a farmers’ market. From garden open days to golf tournaments, raft races to ranger-led walks, you’ll find plenty of events in our online events listing or on the HI-ARTS website. Of course, once you’re in the area our local Information Centres will keep you well informed.
